Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look together at the CE Smith Black Crossmember Pad for Boat Trailers. Now, if your boat trailer has crossmembers or support frames that go from side to side, frame rail to frame rail, you can use one or more of these sturdy poly plastic pads to maximize protection of your boat's hull and keel during loading, transport, and unloading. You can even mount them on the frame rails to protect your boat's finish. This poly plastic pad is going to protect the hull or keel of your boat and help absorb road shock if your boat makes contact with it during trailering.
The mounting holes are going to allow for a simple installation onto the cross member. I do wanna point out that hardware is not included with this. You're just gonna receive this pad. Let me find my ruler here and just give you some overall measurements. Let me give you the measurements of the distance between the mounting holes.
So, let me see if I can line this up for you real quick, so you can see. So, lining that up on center, we're sitting right at about 4 3/4" on those mounting holes. And then looking at the overall length, we're sitting right at a little over 10", maybe this one in particular, looks like we're sitting right about 10 1/8", a little over 10". The overall width, we're sitting right at about 1 1/2". Now, this is made here in the U.S.A.

This is not rubber, it's hard plastic. And I should have looked at the dimensions closer - it's tiny to the point of being useless. They don't give you any perspective in the pictures.

Nothing at all wrong with the product problem is with the installer. Didn't have the ability to drill the trailer for proper install so I used 3m 5200 which generally adherer's everything but in this case it didn't. Lost one off the trailer but fortunately I have several extra.

I thought this part was going to be more rubber-y then plastic, didn't realize it was a combination. It just wouldnt fit on my trailer bc my trailer is curved, not straight

I purchased one of these to get a feel for how they may work for padding metal bars on kayak racks. I'm sure they are fine for many uses; however, they are much too hard for my use (they have the feel of hard plastic).

- Can a Rubber Pad be Used to Guide a Boat Keel/Hull to Center on a TrailerA rubber pad would not work due to rubber's friction coefficient. It would likely leave black marks on the surface as well. Carpet is going to be the best option. You might need different carpet such as # CE11349 if yours is worn or gripping too much. Also if the carpet is not tight enough around the board then it can bunch up and cause you problems.
view full answer... - What Fasteners Should Be Used To Attach the CE Smith Crossmember PadI do have an option for you but the cross member in your attached photo appears to be made of steel tubing which means there would be no access inside to attach a rivet for the CE Smith Crossmember Pad part # CE16870. That said, there are plenty of other fasteners you can use to attach these. I recommend standard self-tapping screws like part # FA1131822 as this will be easiest.

There isn't a set way these pads have to install but self-tapping screws wouldn't be a problem at all nor would rivets as long as they are proplery installed.

Product works great. I put it on the trailer just in case the bow should hit trailer. Feel a lot better with this product in place.
